Disneyland is known to be one of the happiest places on Earth, but nevertheless, it soon becomes identified with that catch phrase and the origin of a measle outbreak. According to the CDC, measles is a respiratory disease caused by a virus and spread through the air. So far, 79 out of 95 known cases are found to be in California and schools are starting to conduct measures up to a two week suspension for students who haven’t been vaccinated. They are however, allowing the student to return if they have proof of the immunization or are medically cleared. It was recently found that a student who traveled abroad has contracted the disease and has exposed it to his peers at the University of Minnesota. This unusual outbreak is similar to the start of the 1346 Black Death, formally known as the bubonic plague. Black Death was an epidemic that swept the lives of 60 percent of Europe’s population and it is caused by a bacterium carried by fleas that live on wild rodents, such as rats. These rats can inhibit many places such as people’s beds and unknowingly (by people), these rodents were travelling by ship, which eventually led to the death of many. Both diseases are easily spread, either by the air (measles) or by a flea bite (bubonic plague); however, the two diseases are able to be contracted by exposure. Also, the distances that these diseases have been spread is due to the mode of transportation like by plane or by ship. People back then and today are still in fear of contracting the disease, and in 1346 through 1353, the best way of not contracting it was to avoid the people who had it, and to burn the bodies of those who died. Nowadays, we still do that by isolating those who aren’t vaccinated to avoid additional measles cases.
These 3 articles are all discussing the deflation of the footballs by the Patriots. Last Sunday the Patriots played the Colts, now each team brought their own ball and it was later discovered that they had deflated the football in order to be able to get a better griping ability. One article discussed how math can be used to find out how long the Patriots have been doing this for. This person was using sacks per possession and comparing that to other teams and how many times they will fumble the football. What they found out was that the Patriots fumbles the least and there was not a close second. Another article discussed how the Patriots have cheated in the past by spying on their opponents. The Patriots have cheated against the jets as well as the Eagles just before the Superbowl. The final article I read was talking about just how ridiculous people are being about this event and just how easily this whole fiasco could have been prevented. The article talked about how silly people are being with this, all that they had to do is make the league provide the footballs.
One event that I am able to connect this to is The Watergate Scandal. You see when it was discovered that the Patriots cheated everybody was shocked. The same was true with President Nixon. Both were cheating and trying to take a short cut to victory. The Patriots deflated the footballs and President Nixon had tried to gain information that would help him win reelection.
These articles pertain to an issue going on out in Arkansas where a woman by the name of Jan Morgan, who runs a gun range, does not allow Muslims to shoot in her range. She says this rule was out in place after 2 people she deemed of Muslim decent, came into her range. She said they were acting suspicious and purely their behavior triggered these new restrictions to be put in place. Morgan says that “We are dealing in lethal firearms,” and “I’m not going to let a Nazi shoot in here, or a Ku Klux Klan member in here, either.”(Fox News,2015). All of this disputation between Morgan and the Muslims has caused serious concern in the Muslim community and with the racial laws that have been put in place in this country. The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is one group that took this problem to the legal level. The CAIR wrote to an attorney general by the name of Eric Holder to deal with the issue. in the letter that was written the group included things about racial and discrimination laws as well as the rights of normal Muslims in Arkansas.
Something that I am able to connect this to in history is the passings of the 13th and 15th amendments. These two laws were put into place when the Civil War ended. They ended slavery in the united states and set all slaves free proclaiming them a part of this country. Even today, like in the articles about Jan Morgan not allowing Muslims into her firing range, there is still people who segregate themselves from other races and religions and there are people that do not except certain kinds of people into our nation.
Right now in the USA a woman by the name of Jan Morgan owns a gun range. And in that gun range no one who is muslim is allowed to shoot firearms. She doesnt judge whether they’re muslim or not by how they look, but by their name. Many people complain that they aren't even muslim and yet they are still not allowed to go to the range because of their name. News reporters call this a violation of the civil rights act of 1964. Jan isn’t necessarily breaking the law because it is considered a “private shooting range”. She says that her business has gained popularity after she banned muslims from shooting in her range. She also says that she doesnt want to have any accidents happen. I think that she is skeptical about letting muslims in her range because of 9/11. I believe that this is considered as segregation. Back in the early to mid 1900’s blacks were not allowed to do the same things as whites. There were different water fountains, bathrooms and even schools. And even now after the 1964 civil rights act, there is still segregation. This connects because back then blacks and whites did the same things in the same place but just seperately. Now muslims have to shoot guns in a different place. Back then segregation wasn’t everywhere and it’s here in this range now. There is no reason as to why she shouldn’t be fined. This is segrigation whether its a “private range” or not.
